Finally, it is here. For the first time in the history of Malayalam films, internet awards are being instituted. The basic concept of the awards is simple. Each awards category will have a set of nominations. Winner in each category will be selected via online polling. Everyone with an email address can vote.
With internet revolution taking place, it is high time that movie awards be decided by the internet user base. You could call it ‘Power To The People’. The whole process of awards (nominations, voting and declaration) will be done online.
Nomination procedure has already begun for various categories and will be put to poll on Feb 1, 2009. All nominations are made by expert suggestions of eminent people in the film industry together with the suggestions of movie buffs in the blogosphere. The polling period spans 28 days, till Feb 28. Once polling is closed, the votes are tallied and the winners will be announced sometime in March.
We consider this as the next step in introducing the Malayalam Film Industry to the World Wide Web.
More details regarding the awards, nomination and awards categories will be announced soon.
